About Atelier Kazerne

A Delft pottery studio rooted in craft, community and the quiet focus that clay brings.

Our story

From barracks storehouse to neighbourhood atelier

Atelier Kazerne opened in 2019 in a modest brick building on Nieuwstraat — once part of a military storehouse complex that gave our studio its name. We restored the ground floor into a light-filled workshop with eight wheels, a long hand-building table and a small but well-stocked glaze room.

We believe pottery should feel approachable. No pretension, no rush — just clay, tools, and patient guidance. Students sit side by side, sharing tips across the bench and celebrating each other's first successful pull on the wheel.

Delft's ceramic heritage runs deep, and while we are not a Delftware factory, we draw inspiration from the city's relationship with clay — functional, honest and made to be used every day.

Our approach

Craft with care, taught with patience

  • Small groups so every student receives real attention
  • Technique taught progressively — no skipping foundations
  • Studio glazes developed in-house for reliable results
  • Sustainable practice: reclaim clay, efficient kiln loads
  • Welcoming atmosphere — tea, biscuits and conversation

Whether you visit for a single afternoon or return week after week, we want you to leave feeling capable and calm. That is what keeps people coming back to Nieuwstraat.
